About the African Institute For Mathematical Sciences

Established in 2003, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pioneering network of centers of excellence for post-graduate education, research, and public engagement in mathematical sciences.
The organization has five centers of excellence that provide Masters in Mathematical Sciences, with three centers offering a work-integrated program that connects students with industry.
To date, AIMS has educated over 2,400 alumni from 44 different African countries, with 33% of them being women. The organization boasts a strong research arm that includes 90 researchers and six prestigious Chairs across the network. In Cameroon and Rwanda, AIMS has a teacher training program that focuses on gender-responsive education.

African Institute For Mathematical Sciences Requirements And Eligible Countries
This call is open for the following masters degree programs:
- Regular Structured Master’s Program: A one-year master’s degree program (run over 3 semesters) in Mathematical Sciences, offered by AIMS centers in Cameroon, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal, and South Africa.
- Cooperative Education Master’s Program: An 18-month master’s degree program in a specific area of applied mathematical sciences, available at the following AIMS centers: AIMS Cameroon, AIMS Rwanda, and AIMS Senegal.

The Regular Program Master’s Program is structured over a three-semester period. The program begins with the Skills phase, which focuses on building a solid foundation of problem-solving skills such as estimation, computation, approximation, modeling, data analysis, and statistics. In the Electives phase, students have the opportunity to apply these skills in some of the most dynamic and exciting areas of science.
Finally, during the Research phase, students work on a research project of their own choosing, under the guidance of a seasoned researcher. This phase culminates in the submission of a scientific report. Research conducted during this phase often forms the basis for further postgraduate studies and research after AIMS.

Note : No need for GRE, TOEFL or other related language tests to be eligible for the AIMS Scholarship. However, you might be required to take up some English and French courses once you are at AIMS.
