In the midst of all thr rifts and drama between the Federal government and the governing body of tertiary institutions across ASUU, some sect of students who hails from the northern region of this beloved country Nigeria, has taken actions into their own hands to protest the ongoing ASUU strike in the city of Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba state.
Carrying out this line of action under the Coalition of Northern civil society organisations, the so called undergraduates could be seen making a plea to structured governments across all levels to halt this particular strike while also bringing it to its abrupt end.
This very reaction of the students were sparked up by the inability of the Federal Government’s inability to end this five-month-long strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) voicing their outcry and opinions placards carrying messages ‘FG end ASUU strike now,’ and ‘Incessant ASUU/FG face-off, a demonstration of craziness,’ on the Jalingo Expressway.
Speaking on behalf of the students during his media briefing with reporters and journalists, the Coalition’s National Secretary-General in the person of Emuseh Gimba, pointed his fingers of accusations at the as regsrds to the Federal Government failing to meet the demands of the striking lecturers.
According to him, “The Federal Government has refused to listen to or even consider ASUU’s petition.” “We’re supposed to be responsible for this,”
“These same government officials were once students.” Previously, these people had access to free education. They are the same people who refer to themselves as our parents. If they will not listen to our lecturers’ pleas, why will they listen to Nigerian students’ pleas?”
“Why won’t they consider the fact that they had free education while the students today do not have free education?”
“Students in Kaduna, Katsina, and other northern states, are concerned about the deterioration of security bemoaning the region’s hss the highest rate of kidnapping and banditry, which is making life difficult for students and Asuu strike shouldn’t be added to the list of their problems so as not to compound their woes” she added.
