In its daily routine of giving back to the society through community services, MTN Foundation a subsidiary of the mobile telecommunications MTN would be offering across the south region scholarships to 360 undergraduates from the zoned 11 states of the South-south and south-east area.
The Director of the Foundation, Mr Dennis Okoro who made this disclosure known at an award ceremony anchored by the subsidiary foundation announced scholarships for scholars for the year 2022.
Okoro added that a total of N200,000 would be awarded to the respective beneficiaries stating that the foundation had invested
N3 billion in rewarding beneficiaries of the past decade.
In the words of his mouth “As part of our social investment mandate, the MTN Foundation grants scholarships to eligible high performing students studying full-time science and technology-related courses as well as blind students studying any discipline in
public tertiary institutions”.
“The awardees have all merited it, having successfully competed with about 50,000 other applicants. So we are hereo to bring them in and to induct those who have graduated passing through the scheme,” he remarked.
He added that it would spice up the desires in students to aspire to acquire the best form of education One can ever dream and wish.
Also the State Governor who though didn’t graced the occasion Hope Uzodimma was full of praise for the foundation for making such an event in the state a reality carrying out it’s community services.
Represented by his Special Adviser on youths, Mr Eric Uwakwe, he has this message to pass showing his desire to keep partnering with
the foundation for the improvement of y welfare of youths in the state and the country at large.
Gracing the event also was one of the beneficiary who happens to be a blind 300 level Law student studying at the prestigious University of Nigeria, situated in Enugu state.
The blind student who goes by the name Mr Obinna Onyeishi, was
full of praise as well as appreciation to the MTN foundation for making him part of their scholarship scheme as he pledged to not be limited by his deficiency which is his visual impairment.
The occasion came to a close with the major event of the day which had to do with the presentation of cheques to every beneficiary of this very initiative which happens to be present at the occasion by by key leaders and officials of this very foundation.
