WHAT IS JUPEB?
It is of the acronym Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, It is an Approved, Proven & Certified Advanced level programme moderated by University Of Ilorin and also having coordinated body in various tertiary institutions and different study centres nationwide. The programme is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for candidates who cannot gain admission to regular degree programmes in Nigerian Universities for one reason or the other, as the programme only requires candidates O’level results. HOW JUPEB WORKS?:
Prospective JUPEB candidates are required to select any THREE (3) A/L JUPEB Subject Combination plus Genel studies (English Language) identified with their preferred course of study in the university be it Science, Art or Social Science Course.
Candidates would then be lectured for the stipulated period at their respective Study Centre and thereafter sit for the final examination. On completion of the programme, successful candidates accordingly utilize their JUPEB certificate to secure admission into 200level in any Nigeria tertiary institution via JAMB.

JUPEB PROGRAMME DURATION:’
JUPEB A’level programme runs for a maximum period of one academic session(9-10month) divided into two(2) semesters.
JUPEB PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY:
The programme is open to all interested candidates nationwide and any course can be offered to be it Science, Art or Social Science.

Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, that is the full meaning of JUPEB. JUPEB Is a programme that is being moderated and supervised by University Of Ilorin, (Unilag). Is a 9 to 10-month course for advanced students (those who have finished their secondary school certificate) from Nigeria secondary schools to be able to be admitted into the second year at university of choice in combination with JAMB.
With JUPEB, candidates can apply and study any course with the programme at almost Nigerian Universities that accept the final JUPEB result. Basically students who failed to use the only JAMB to gain admission into higher institution in Nigeria can use JUPEB in combination with JAMB D.E and the post UTME of the choice university and the admission chances is way higher if they already passed through the rudiment process of registration, admission into the various centres in Nigeria, attend lectures and register for the examination and come out with good JUPEB grade. Before candidates can use JUPEB to gain admission, the student needs to combine it with JAMB D.E form just like the polytechnic students.
JUPEB Preliminary Information
The establishment of this examinations body was recently approved by the federal government of Nigeria to fill the gap created by the discontinuance of Advance Level Examinations.
To be eligible to take examinations leading to the award of JUPEB’s Direct Entry Certificates, the candidate must have been exposed to an intensive scheme of academic work relevant to his/her proposed university course.
- Each candidate must register, sit for Examinations and satisfy the Board in three subjects and a General Studies course relevant to the proposed course in any of the universities.
- Each subject is to be broken into four courses to be taken, two per semester, by the candidate. The results in all the courses are to be merged at the end of the second semester to obtain the candidate’s grade in that particular subject.
- Each candidate is expected to take twelve (12) courses, six per semester, and a General Studies course.
- The general Studies for courses in each University Faculty will be based on relevant General courses suggested for that Faculty by each university.
- The students upon completion of the programme will be issued certificates based on their level of performance which bear Letter Grades of A, B, C, D, E or F in each of the three subjects and General Studies Paper.
For admission into each university, each candidate, in addition to passing the prescribed JUPEB examinations for issuing the Direct Entry Certificates, must satisfy all other conditions as prescribed by his/her university of choice.
Duration of Academic Programme
The duration of the Programme of courses for the Board’s Examination is a minimum of one academic session of two semesters.
The Basic Qualification for Enrolment is a minimum of five (5) Credit Passes at the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) /General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level in subjects relevant to the desired university programme or course of study.

Full meaning of JUPEB is Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board – it is a programme being moderated by Unilag, Ilorin ( University Of Ilorin). When I said moderated by them, I mean they supervised and monitored the programme so that it wouldn’t dwindled to the extent where other universities wouldn’t like to associate with the programme anymore. Not only that, they formulate policies and laws that governed the programme and other essential tool kit that show the headway of the programme, like the syllabus to follow, the needed requirements by the programme, and exam time table, all is being done by Unilag.

JUPEB is a ten months program in which you or your ward will go through and make final result, probably scoring a minimum of 5 points out of the total of 16 points, you or that your child will have the opportunity of gaining admission into 200 Level of any university of choice whether is of federal, state or private universities. How To Get JUPEB Form
If you have read through our previous posts, you must by now know how to get your JUPEB registration form. To get the JUPEB form, you need to print out the from and fill the fields with capital letters, then pay the non-refundable fee of the JUPEB application fee of #15,000, then scan the teller and form to [email protected]
Well, I think I have made mentioned of the main purpose of JUPEB – is to see you through and gain admission into 200 Level of any university of your choice, except of course Unilag. And maybe what I forgot to add to it is that the JUPEB result does not expire, unlike UTME that you need to do every year. At a time, you can choose six universities of your first choice, second choice, third choice ………….etc till six choices in a single year.
Before you can make use of your JUPEB results there is a primary requirement you are expected to have reached, which we think is no problem to you as a candidate. The primary requirement of anyone seeking to attend or register for JUPEB programme is to have his O level result complete, or at least use awaiting result, but in an expectation that you are going to write your O level result while the Jupeb programme is going on, since you can’t make use of it (the JUPEB result) without having your O level result completed.
Who Can Attend JUPEB Programme?

How To Make Use Of Your JUPEB Result
To use your JUPEB result to gain admission into 200 Level, you need to visit JAMB website or their nearest office to obtain D.E form (Direct Entry), fill them in correlation with your JUPEB result, by then you have the opportunity to choose first and second choice university. Another interest thing is, you have the opportunity of choosing your course which will be determined by how many points you were able to obtain from the JUPEB exam from your JUPEB result. Again, JUPEB results do not expire, you can use to gain admission even after ten years you have obtained it.
JUPEB Year To Year Calendar
JUPEB calendar starts around April every year and it ends by August for the registration. By September, while the registration is still going on, the lectures for the session will start, which is usually September. The lectures will run through to May the following year. From May the revision for the session will start. JUPEB examination can start from late May to early June, and the examination last for two weeks.
