The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JABM) awarded 13 universities a sum spread over the country.
Beneficiary schools include those that are owned by government officials and private colleges.
Each of the 5 awards attracted N100m and was split among the top two institutions winning each category.

Thirteen Nigerian tertiary institutions share N500m JAMB compliance prize
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has awarded total N500 millions in prizes to 13 different universities across the nation.
The winners, which included states, federal, and private schools, were among the highest to be considered for 2020’s JAMB National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit award (NATAP-M Awards).
The winners were awarded N100 million in all five award categories.
The categories comprise the top institution by prospective students and the one that has the highest diversity of nationals as well as the school that has the highest gender diversity, and the school that has the highest number of international students.
The ceremony of awarding prizes was conducted on Thursday, the International Conference Centre in Abuja at the admission policy conference, which was presided by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
According to JAMB the registrar, Ishaq Oloyede The ceremony that was awarded to the winner was the third of the series that began in the year 2018.
Oloyede said that the winners will be awarded N75 million, and those who are the runners up will get N15 million as well as N10 million, respectively.
He said that the prize, initially to be N100 million for winners, was modified in order to provide incentives for runners up on the suggestion of the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu.

Winners
With 81,659 students taking part for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) was named the most sought-after higher education institution in Nigeria as Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) came second with 754,446. Bayero University, Kano (BUK) was third with 59,506.
UNILORIN was awarded N75 million and ABU and BUK were awarded N15 and N10 million respectively.
Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State came first in the category of most nationwide in admissions spread with applicants across all the 33 states in the Federation.
Ahmadu Bello University came in first, having applicants from 32 states as well Afe Babalola University came in second, having candidates from 29 states.
In the words of Mr. Oloyede, this classification is comprised of the institutions that have the largest number of students from across the nation.
Additionally, Federal University, Lafia was awarded the prize for the most improved gender balance by 2020. The first place runner-up went to the FCT College of Education, Zuba and the second place came from Abia State University Uturu.
The school with the highest number of international students is Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria with 61 students The University of Maiduguri was second with 20 while Nile University in Abuja was third with eleven.
In addition, Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State, was ranked the top in regards to JAMB policy conformance. In addition, the University of Ibadan and the University of Maiduguri were named first and second runners-up respectively.

By 2023 the total prize currently set at N500 million will rise to N750 million
Before the next ceremony for awards in 2023 The JAMB official registrar announced that the board would divide the awards between polytechnics, universities, and colleges of higher education.
He also said that the prize in its entirety current set at N500 million is expected to be raised by N750 million by the time it is.
