When it comes to gaining admission into a university in Nigeria, you generally have two major routes: JAMB admission or IJMB admission. While both options ultimately lead you to earning a degree, there are important differences between them.
JAMB Admission Gets You Into 100 Level
With JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board), you gain admission into 100 level. You are required to sit for the JAMB exam and, in most cases, also write the Post-UTME conducted by your chosen university.
IJMB Admission Takes You Directly Into 200 Level
On the other hand, IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board) is an A-level program. After completing IJMB, you can gain direct admission into 200 level without writing JAMB. Instead of a Post-UTME, most universities will conduct a screening exercise to process your admission.
Same Certificate, Same Opportunities
Whether you go through JAMB or IJMB:
- You will be awarded the same Bachelor’s degree after completing your university program.
- You will participate in the NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) program like every other graduate.
