In the 15th anniversary year of its inception, The Environmental Photographer of the Year contest showcases the most inspiring images of nature from around the world.

The award recognizes humanity’s capacity to endure and invent and presents thought-provoking photos that draw attention to our environmental footprint and encourage us to be sustainable.

This Environmental Photographer of the Year competition is a response to the urgent calls for take action in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in recognition of the interconnected nature of development inequality, poverty reduction as well as climate and security and the extraordinary effort from every sector of society needed to tackle the most pressing challenges that confront us at this time.

Aim and Benefits of CIWEM Photographer of the Year Competition

  • Environment Photographer Of The Year It is open for amateur and professional photographer of any age from all across the globe. The winner will be awarded an award of PS5,000 along with an interview with the CIWEM’s Environment Magazine, a profile on the website of WaterBear, and an appearance on the Nikon Europe website.
  • Young Environment Photographer Of the Year This award recognizes emerging talents and it is available to photographers 21 or less. The winner will be awarded an Z Series Mirrorless camera and two NIKKOR Z lenses of their choice, and also an interview with the CIWEM’s Environment Magazine and a feature on the Waterbear and Nikon platforms.
  • Additional cash prizes worth PS1,000 are given out in the following categories:
    • Vision of the Future
    • Recovering Nature
    • Keeping 1.5 Alive
    • Adapting for Tomorrow

Requirements for CIWEM Photographer of the Year Competition Qualification

  • All photographers are welcome from all over the globe.
  • Anyone born on or after the 31st of August, 2001 will automatically be included in the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year category. For those who are under 18, parental consent must be obtained from the guardian or parent or guardian of the photographer. A proof of age could be required following submission has been submitted.
  • You can submit previously published photographs, however, you should not submit images that have received the recognition or award at another photography contest in the world.
