In Nigeria today, gaining admission to a university is one of the toughest journeys a student can embark on. We all know the road is a very rough one, filled with so many setbacks, disappointments, heartbreaks, and frustration, to mention just a few.
This has been the nightmare and biggest discouragement for many students and Bola is not an exception. Bola has had his share of disappointments and frustration, but guess what! He didn’t give up.
Bola’s story is a unique encouraging one with a very important lesson to learn from. His story is one filled with dedication, resilience, and hard work that was ultimately crowned with success.
After 3 unsuccessful attempts with JAMB, Bola learned about IJMB. She wrote JAMB 3 different times and still wasn’t able to gain admission.
This is Bola’s Testimony: This is a story filled with resilience, and dedication, to how she finally secured a slot to study biochemistry at UNIBEN after 3 unsuccessful attempts.
First Attempt (in 2017)
In 2017, Bola wrote her first JAMB. Her dream was to study Biochemistry, one of the highly sought-after courses at the University of Benin (UNIBEN). She prepared very well for it, enrolled in extra lessons, and attended special tutorials just to help her with studying for both JAMB and the post-UTME screening.
She wrote her JAMB and, Her hard work paid off, as she got an impressive score of 240 she registered for the post-UTME and performed well in the post-UTME too. Confident that she would be admitted, Bola waited anxiously for the admission list to be published.
However, when the list was released, her name was nowhere to be found. Despite her high scores, she was not lucky enough, she was not admitted. Disappointed and Heartbroken but her determination still intact, Bola decided to try again the following year.
Second Attempt (2018)
In 2018, Bola registered for JAMB again immediately after the registration started. However, she couldn’t prepare as well as she did the first time. She became occupied and couldn’t attend those special tutorials, and JAMB lessons.
All of these were due to some personal challenges and time constraints and in the end, her performance was badly affected. She only managed to score 190, which was below the cut-off mark for her desired course, Biochemistry. Once again, she was not admitted.
The disappointment was overwhelming and frustrating. Bola began to question whether she would ever achieve her dream of studying Biochemistry. But she wasn’t ready to give up just yet.
Third Attempt (2019)
In 2019, Bola decided to give JAMB one more try. But this time, something different happened. While having a chit-chat with a friend of hers, Bola was complaining about her ordeal, and her friend told her about the IJMB program. Bola became curious and decided to do her research, and during the research, She discovered that IJMB is an advanced-level program that allows students to gain direct entry admission into 200-level Nigerian universities faster, without relying on JAMB.
Fascinated and excited, Bola decided to give it a try, she registered for both JAMB and IJMB that year.
She found and enrolled in an accredited IJMB study centre and began her classes. While she still wrote JAMB and scored 205, she was no longer solely dependent on it for admission. Her focus shifted to the IJMB program as her confidence in it has grown tremendously.
Bola completely dedicated herself to the IJMB program, attending classes regularly, attending organised tutorials by classmates and also studying hard on her own. At the end of the program, she sat for the IJMB examination and scored an impressive 11 points. With this result, she knew she had a very good chance of gaining admission through direct entry.
Within that same period, Bola still managed to write her JAMB and when the results were released, she wasn’t bothered at all. She had already secured her IJMB result, which she was now confident was her ticket to university admission. She took advantage of the Direct entry program and applied for Biochemistry at UNIBEN using her IJMB result and waited for the admission list.
When the list was released, Bola’s name appeared on the admission list. She had been admitted into 200-level Biochemistry at UNIBEN through direct entry. The joy and relief she felt were indescribable. After three years of struggle and disappointments, her dream has finally come true.
